Hello and Happy New Year!

I have taken a winter break from newsletters and show and tells.  I am now ready to arrive back into this sharing relationship with you all!

The winter has been exciting for me.  I have had the time to work on Claylin, the ready mix earthen floor product that is now available for purchase.  There are many steps, lots of learning.  You can keep up with this exciting new product at www.claylin.com.

For years the one inch thick finish floor price for installing an earthen floor has been $10 per square foot.  The production of Claylin had made it that we at From These Hands can install a one inch thick finish floor for $8 per square foot.  Do it yourself prices as low as $2.51 per square foot.

We are often looking for workshop locations.  If you want your earthen floor project to be a workshop for you and others to learn and save money, the one inch thick finish floor price can be as low as $6 per square foot!  Contact us at info@claylin.com.  We are looking for a floor project we can film, this too would be a discounted rate of $6 per square foot at one inch thick.  First come first mud!

From These Hands is also growing in the services we offer.  We have carpentry and woodworking in our tool belts now that we have both Jeremy Rosenbloom and Jason Montgomery in company!  We have recently joined the group Renovation Concepts so we may network our work with other fine crafts people in the area!

Other exciting Mud News!

  • First permit for a Cob Home in Oregon, Klamath County!  I got this information from a list serve.  I will post more information from the owner when I have it.
  • I have been invited to join a panel at the US/China Workshop on Earth-based structural materials in conjunction with ISISS 2011, October 28-30, Xiamen University, Xiamen, China.  Mr. Ray Liang, who invited me, grew up in a earth building and conducted an engineering study of Haaka Buildings in 2009.  Haaka buildings were inscribed into UNESCO World Heritage List at teh 32nd World Heritage Committee meeting, 6 July 2008, Quebec City, Canada. I would visit these buildings on the visit to China.

This coming season you will see more of our Show and Tells.  We are looking to show off a few different projects.  The healing cob studio, the Rumford fireplace, a sweet extra room, and a few floors!

I will be showing off Claylin at the Better Living show at the Eagle Creek Natural Building booth.  March 25, 26, and 27th is the show, I will be there on Saturday and Sunday.

We are planning to be at other green home shows in Seattle and San Francisco as well!

Presentations on Claylin are coming soon as well.  Looking to have architects, designers, builders, homeowners, real estate agents in the room.

Again our mission is to rekindle the connection, trust and knowledge to build with the earth.

Happy March and keep your garden growing!
