Winter 2010

Hello and welcome to the very first News-letter of From These Hands,LLC!  I am excited to share with you in a seasonal newsletter what we are up to at From These Hands, LLC.

(I know many of you already got this, some technical glitches are being worked out, so I am sending it again, all cleaned up of glitches.  If you got something not quite like this pretty newsletter and are getting this one now let me know!  I also understand some of you only receive text, no HTML.  Thank you for your patience with this learning curve)

Check out the website to see all sorts of photos of our sculptures, plasters, floors and other earthen construction projects!

Like this little beauty!  Earthen plaster sculpture on sheet rock wall.

From These Hands, LLC has grown from its' early 2002 beginning.  I am so excited to now be an employer and growing!

Over the past three years we have focused our attention on becoming masters at making and installing earthen floors.

What is an earthen floor you may ask?

Our earthen floors are made of local raw clay soil, sand and fibers mixed wet and poured similar to a concrete slab.  After they are dry, oils and beeswax are applied to harden and seal the floor, creating a beautiful finished floor for your home.

We install our floors as slabs on grade, over new or old concrete or even over new or remodeled framed floors.  Many of our floors are installed with hydronic tubes in them to provide a radiant heat system for the space.

Colors are also available, like this wonderful red color, celebration can be included!

This past year was a fun earthen floor year.  We installed 7000 square feet of flooring, worked with Naomi to install our first public floor at Concentrates Inc., a semi private floor for the Dance Mandala community and we were featured in the October 30, 2009 episode of Renovation Nation.  As seen on TV!

What is in the works for 2010?  Pouring earthen floors of course and other earthen projects!  We are growing.  We are integrating earthen construction methods and materials into more green buildings, and we are rekindling the trust and knowledge to build with the earth.
